Mihael Mišo Mudrić, Ph.D.

Mihael Mišo Mudrić (PhD) is an associate professor at the Department for Maritime and Transport Law, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb (scientific identification number 293722). He serves as an arbitrator at the Permanent Arbitration Court at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, in domestic and foreign arbitration. He has obtained a PhD degree at the Faculty of Law, University of Hamburg, being a Scholar of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg (Germany).

He is the founder of the Croatian Association of Insurance Law where he served for two terms as the Secretary General and a member of the Governing Board. He is the Vice President of Croatian Maritime Law Association. He is a member of the International Working Groups on the “Reformulation of the Lex Maritima” and “Maritime Law for Unmanned Ships“, and a member of the Standing Committee „CMI’s Standing Committee for Young Lawyers (Young CMI)“, Comité Maritime International (CMI). He is a member of the Scientific Council for State Administration, Judiciary and Rule of Law, Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts; an expert associate of the Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences, and a member of the Governing Board of the Institute for Security Policies. He served as a member of the Executive Committee of the MARSAFENET project Cost action IS1105, and as a director of a Summer School on Maritime Law at the Inter-University Centre in Dubrovnik (Croatia).

He is the Head of Project “Legal Framework for Autonomous Vehicles”, financed by the University of Zagreb, and has previously participated in over 10 international scientific research projects financed by the Croatian Science Foundation, Ministry of Science and Education, EU Cost Action Programme, and others. In addition, he acts as an editor for legal and ethical framework for the use of advanced algorithms and personal data protection within the Horizon 2020 project “Intelligent Management of Processes, Ethics and Technology for Urban Safety”, (2020-2023).

He has organized and co-organized over 15 international scientific and expert conferences, published over 90 publications (including two author monographies, and multiple chapters in monographies), held lectures at over 70 international and domestic scientific and expert conferences, prepared peer-reviews for a number of domestic and foreign publishers (monographies and journals), acted as a guest editor for domestic publications, and held a number of expert workshops in the transport, insurance and energy fields.

Associate Professor Mudrić held semester lectures in the LL.M. program in Maritime and Transport Law, Faculty of Law, Erasmus University in Rotterdam (Netherlands). H performed a scientific research work at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Germany; 2008-2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), the International Tribunal for the Law of Sea Library (Germany; 2008-2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), Erasmus University of Rotterdam Library (Netherlands; 2014), and, the International Maritime Organization Library (United Kingdom; 2009).

He has been awarded with the: Scholarship, Max Planck International School for Maritime Affairs, Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (2008-2010); Comité Maritime International Prize for the Best Speaker (CMI award; 2013); Scholarship, Marija and Mirjan Damaška Foundation, post-doctoral research (2020); Scholarship, Karl-Franzes-Universität Graz (2003); University of Zagreb’s Rector Award (2004); State Scholarship, Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, Undergraduate Students (2001) and Postgraduate Students (2007, 2011); Scholarship, National Foundation for Science (2008); Scholarship, Open Society Institute, Global Supplementary Grants Program (2010).

Associate Professor Mudrić holds lectures in the following courses: Maritime and General Transport Law (in Croatian, in English), Carriage of Goods by Sea (in English), Insurance Law (in Croatian, in English), Transport Insurance Law (in Croatian, in English), European Transport Law (in Croatian, in English), Energy Law and Energy Security Law (in Croatian, in English), and, Private Security Services and Law (in Croatian, in English).

Associate Professor Mudrić actively speaks and writes in the English and German languages, and has published papers in multiple languages.
